One of the most populist critics that are listened among the detractors of the international journals of high impact is its limited “audience”, that refers to, is restricted exclusively to the researchers and academics without getting to society. It is a trivial critic and without support because the essence and vocation of this kind of publications is to collect the most original and updated contributions of science, to improve society in fields like medicine, building, ecology, education, communication…
Being a journal of high impact is not only having cites in other publications as some academics argue vaguely, in order to, undoubtedly, discredit them, because although it is its visible part, there is a labor of base deeper that establishes to journals as bridges among research and social development. It is evident, on the other side, that this kind of publications do not intend to compete with the mass media that have other purposes, but we should not forget that many of them look for having repercussion in the mass media within this vocation of getting to wide audiences, in a divulgated way and without technical terms, the results of research that are published. The cases of “Nature” or “Science” are the two most well known examples of alternation among scientific communication and social transference in general.
“Comunicar”, as a scientific journal of high impact, is also present, in a global way, in the mass media, specially through the common social networks (Twitter, Facebook), social scientific networks (ResearchGate, Academia.edu), websites of videos (YouTube), but also seek to the projection and massive diffusion through the media. For that reason, the role of the authors and the theme of the articles is a key. This labor can have sense since the “preprint” of the article is published because it is already present in the official web, in the networks and it is time to give it the greater “popular” diffusion, although we should not forget that this is never in contradiction with its “scientific impact”, its presence in other research works of first level and in the great international index-linked sites (JCR and Scopus).
In the section of Preprints (https://goo.gl/LeNnt7) it is found in this moment the work signed by María Sánchez Valle, Belinda de-Frutos-Torres y Tamara Vázquez-Barrio. Madrid and Valladolid (España), entitled “La influencia de los padres en la adquisición de habilidades críticas en Internet” (Parent’s influence on acquiring critical Internet skills) (DOI:10.3916/C53-2017-10) that has already had, before its definitive publication, a high impact in mass media. At the time that begins to have impact in the scientific community, it is positioned in a high position regarding to the media impact in the citizenship. All a success, taking into account that it has not already been published in its definitive version. Undoubtedly this parameters position to this work among one of the most read and with greater transference and social impact, reason why we consider that for our readers is a good example to follow to activate their works since its preprint version.
